Why should I consider adding NeedleCover to NeedleOff 2?
NeedleCover allows the practitioner to conveniently secure a used needle during and after a procedure, without recapping or removing it from the Syringe. This makes it possible to safely postpone and delegate removing the needle with NeedleOff 2. Thanks to NeedleCover, you can position NeedleOff 2 in a central location to share between multiple treatment rooms. Furthermore, the reusable NeedleCover is the most sustainable integrated needle safety system available. Without the need to discard disposable systems after every procedure, medical waste volumes are significantly reduced. Used up Sleeves that have completed a cleaning cycle can be discarded as generic recyclable plastic waste.
What’s included?
NeedleCover is available in the Syringekit, which includes 2 NeedleCover Sleeves (which are combination of a Stopper and a Tube) and 1 NeedleCover Syringe featuring Sleeve Guides that allow NeedleCover Sleeves to securely slide along the Syringe and lock in position. The user manual is also included.
Additional NeedleCover Sleeves are available in a 4-Pack. Additional NeedleCover Syringes can be ordered per piece.
What are the specifications of the NeedleCover Syringe 49571?
NeedleCover Syringe 49571 is a self-aspirating dental syringe made of high-quality stainless steel with Teflon inserts and European thread. It features permanently attached Sleeve Guides. These are required to allow NeedleCover Sleeves to securely slide and lock along the length of the Syringe.
A slight press on the plunger allows self-aspiration without retracting the needle. Compatible with 1,8 ml anesthetic vials.
What are the prerequisites for using NeedleCover?
NeedleCover requires NeedleOff 2. If you already own a first generation NeedleOff, you can upgrade it with a Gripper Cassette 2 to make it compatible with NeedleCover.
Can I use my existing syringes with NeedleCover?

Although the NeedleCover solution is universal for different syringe types, it is necessary to add Sleeve Guides to the syringe to ensure a secure sliding and locking. Do not use Needleoff 2 for any type of needle other than a straight dental needle. It’s not designed for needles that are mounted to the syringe under an angle (such as Citoject) or devices that do not offer unobstructed access to the needle hub (such as Quicksleeper).
Where should I set up NeedleOff 2 when using NeedleCover?
With NeedleCover, NeedleOff 2 can be placed in a central position in the practice or hospital. We often see NeedleOff 2 being placed in the Central Sterilization Department (CSD) or any other location where post-procedure trays are being moved to.
How do I install a NeedleCover Sleeve on NeedleCover Syringe?
Slide the Stopper over the Syringe, with the notches facing the back of the Syringe. Next, slide the Tube over the Syringe, again with the notches facing the back of the Syringe. Align the right notch edge of the Tube with the left notch edge of the Stopper and slide the Tube into the Stopper. To fasten, turn the Stopper to the left and the Tube to the right until both their notches align. The NeedleCover Sleeve is now installed.
How do I (un)lock NeedleCover in the open or closed position?
While holding the Syringe with the needle pointing away from you, twisting NeedleCover to the left will lock it in position. Twisting NeedleCover to the right will unlock it, allowing you to slide it along the length of the Syringe to (un)cover the needle.
Can I still add additional anesthetic after locking NeedleCover in the closed position?
Yes, you can. Simply unlock NeedleCover with a twist to the right, slide it back to the open position, and lock it in place with a twist to the left. You can now administer an additional injection, monitoring the volume through the transparent Sleeve. Make sure to lock NeedleCover in the closed position again after finishing the injection.
How do I unlock NeedleCover once inserted in NeedleOff 2?
After you insert the locked NeedleCover in the closed position into the Gripper Cassette entry funnel, simply twist the Syringe to the left to unlock NeedleCover. This allows you to lower the Syringe into NeedleOff 2, automatically initiating the needle removal procedure.
Do I need to press the needle down into NeedleOff 2?
No, just unlocking NeedleCover with a left twist and lowering the needle into NeedleOff 2 suffices for a successful removal procedure. We do not advise applying any downward pressure to minimize the risk of unintentionally forcing the needle back onto the thread.
When using NeedleCover, do I need to hold the Syringe once the needle removal procedure starts?
It is advised to loosely hold the Syringe during the procedure. The Entry Funnel holds the NeedleCover Sleeve in place, which prevents it from spinning once the needle removal procedure starts. You can remove the Syringe as soon as the NeedleOff 2 display shows ‘OUT’.
What do I do with the syringe after the needle has been removed?
To eliminate the risk of cross-contamination, it is advised to clean the used syringe in accordance with the applicable hygiene protocol for contaminated medical instruments before the next use.
How do I remove NeedleCover from the syringe?
It is advised to include a used up NeedleCover Sleeve in a thermal disinfector cleaning cycle before removal. For safety reasons, the Stopper and Tube cannot be disassembled once installed on a NeedleCover Syringe. To remove a NeedleCover Sleeve, use a nipper to carefully cut the Stopper at the notch, after which the Tube can be easily removed. Used up Sleeves that have completed a cleaning cycle can be discarded as generic recyclable plastic waste.
What do I do with used Tubes and Stoppers?
If NeedleCover has completed a cleaning cycle before removing the Stopper and Tube, you can discard the removed parts as generic, recyclable plastic waste.
What is the expected lifespan of a NeedleCover Sleeve?
NeedleCover Sleeves are consumables that should be periodically replaced to ensure optimal safety and functionality. The actual lifespan of a NeedleCover Sleeve depends largely on usage and care.
Always replace a NeedleCover Sleeve whenever damage, deformation or reduced functionality occurs.
What does the number of the Stopper and Tube mean?
NeedleCover Sleeves are specifically designed for a Syringe type. The number on the Stopper and Tube, starting with 586, is the article number of the compatible NeedleCover Sleeve 4-Pack. This ensures you can easily select and order the right replacement when ordering consumables.
Which type of NeedleCover Sleeves do I need to order?
NeedleCover Sleeves are specifically designed for a Syringe type. Please refer to the article number (starting with 586), which is visible on both Stoppers and Tubes, to ensure ordering the Sleeves compatible with your NeedleCover Syringe. You can find the matching article number for the correct NeedleCover Sleeve 4-Pack on our website.
How often do I need a new NeedleCover Syringe?
The lifespan of the NeedleCover Syringe is comparable to all other dental syringes.
How do I clean a NeedleCover Sleeve?
The NeedleCover Sleeve can remain on the NeedleCover Syringe through all conventional thermal disinfection cycles. It is advised to lock the Sleeve in the closed position for cleaning purposes.
